Highlife is a music genre that originated in Ghana in late 19th century and later spread to other West African countries. Highlife later spread to other West African countries through Ghanaian workers. The earliest form of highlife was performed by brass bands along the coast where later the brass bands incorporated a broader array of instruments which had elements both of local music traditions and of jazz.
